Tips For Pet Friendly Lawn Care Products

If you have pets, then you need pet friendly lawn care products in your home. Most pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides that you use in your lawn an harm your pet. Many times, pets will munch on this grass and at the same time take in the chemicals that are on the grass. This can cause many health risks for your pet. When you use only pet friendly lawn care products, this is not going to happen.

The good news is that these products are readily available today. Pet friendly lawn care products are readily produces and found at affordable prices, too. You will want to look for a seal on them that says that they are certified by vets to be safe for use in areas with pets. These are also products tested and certified by the EPA, or Environmental Protection Agency.

Organic Or Chemical?

When considering quality, organic products are just as good, if not better than chemicals. While these products are helpful for taking care of your pet, they are also helpful in maintaining a healthy environment. The products are made up of natural substances such as manure from animals like sea birds or cows. These products are made up of elements that are natural and bio degradable. When you switch to using these products, you allow yourself to help the environment and you get the benefit of protecting your pets. It makes sense to use pet friendly organic lawn care products.

Making Your Own

If you want to make pet friendly lawn care products on your own, you can do so. Why not produce organic fertilizer to start with? You can easily make this at home from the waster products from your own kitchen. Using fruit peelings and other natural (not animal) based products, you can create compost. This is part of the natural decomposition process that all material goes through. In the process, the nutrients are broken down and the grass and other plants can take advantage of it. To make it, all you need to do is to store these waste materials in a safe location and as they rot, they become helpful to the lawn.

When it comes to maintain a healthy lawn for your pets, you need to use pet friendly lawn care products regularly. You can make them yourself or use store bought, the point is just to keep chemical out of the mix. Your pets, the environment and even your family will benefit from these.

Lawnmowers and the Art of Maintaining Good Lawns

Lawn Maintenance is essential if you are planning to have a good garden with manageable greenery around your home. Depending on ones' budget and size of the lawn one can opt for the best featured mowers offered now in the market. Lawn mowing need not become an onerous chore if the machine is light weight and easy to manoeuvre. Lawn mowers can work on electric power on 850 watts power and stand on wheels to enable one to move it around the patch of grass that has to be uniformly pruned. There are others which run on 1250 watts motor. The blade inside is about 32cms wide and can effectively chop off the grass to varying heights which can be pre -adjusted , between say, 20 to 60mm according to our needs.

If space is a constraint then there are foldable handles which can be neatly stored away after use. The cable connecting the mower to the power point is long enough to facilitate mowing even the outer edges of the lawn. The cable can be even as long as 32 feet. There are cables with shorter length available too. Similarly whether it is a tall or short person doing the mowing the height is adjustable. The switching systems can either be left or right handed. The box collecting the cut grass has a capacity of about 28 litres and this provision is a great advantage because the task of collecting the cut grass becomes simpler. One can simply empty the box after the mowing is done.

There are also the 36 volt lithium ion battery powered mowers which can run after being fully charged in an hour. The advantage is that it is cordless and can therefore be transported to lawns further away from the mains. Compared to the conventional batteries, this is at least 15 times faster. Lawn mowers are increasingly sleeker and lighter and designed to tackle even a slope, an awkward incline or ditch which is full of overgrowth that needs to be cut uniformly. There are petrol run lawn mowers that run on 50cc motor and can tackle grass with a height of 10 to 40mm.

For larger lawn areas there are tougher steel chassis bodied Lawnmowers that run on 1300 watt power. There are also plastic and nylon safety blades, which work more efficiently and are longer lasting. Blades can be changed according to our need. There are also special grass combs that can cut the grass that is growing closer to the walls and edges of flower beds.

It is good to opt for the smooth and quiet motors that do not make too much noise but are tough on the grass. For small and medium sized lawns it is best to go for the light weight models because the operation itself should be fairly easy and without too much effort. Gardening will then become a welcome pleasurable activity that one can look forward

to and the lawn becomes a place where we have expended our skill and energy to make it look like a green work of art.

How to Get the Best Lawn Care Tools

When it comes to caring for your lawn, the use of correct tools helps to make the task in hand a whole lot easier and it can also help you to maintain the look with minimum effort. You do not necessarily need a professional in order to create a healthy and great looking lawn and if you have the right tools then you can do just as good a job yourself.

There is such a massive range of lawn care tools available on the market, which can leave the average gardener absolutely overwhelmed and spoilt for choice. With the selection of tools out there, you should make sure that you have all of the basics and essential equipment needed in order to take care of your lawn.

What Kind of Tools are considered to be Essential?

If you have no equipment whatsoever but you want to take care of your lawn then you should consider getting:-

o A lawnmower with spare blades

o An aerator

o Garden Shears

o A rake

o A spade or garden fork

An aerator is a great piece of equipment because it works by creating holes in the lawn which allow the soil to move a bit more freely. The reason this is a good thing, is because of the fact that it can easily get the nutrients and the water that it needs in order to flourish and to maintain its health.

The benefits of a lawnmower are clear to see as it really helps to keep the grass trim and looking tidy. However it also helps to maintain the health at the same time. You can easily get rid of any dead grass that is on the top of the lawn and this helps to promote new and healthier grass to grow from the bottom.

Something else that will come in extremely handy is a good pair of garden shears, as these can help you to trim the grass and even the hedges too. You can even create patterns out of your hedges with your trimmers, so it all comes down to creativity and personal preference.

If your lawn has a lot of leaves scattered all over it then you can easily get rid of them with the use of a garden rake. The leaves may seem harmless, but they can stop water and sunlight from getting through onto the lawn and they could even end up indirectly killing the grass. That is why it is a good idea to get rid of them as soon as you can and a garden rake is the perfect way to do this.

Maintaining a Great Yard Can Start With Rent to Own

If you need to do yard maintenance, you are going to need a lot of supplies. From the obvious things like plants, dirt, and mulch to the tools and machinery needed to move earth and manicure landscaping, there is a large initial investment if you want to create a beautiful yard. Or is there? If you believe conventional wisdom, you have to own all the tools and machinery yourself, regardless of whether you're a homeowner, a condo owner who is responsible for their own yard, or an owner of an apartment complex or commercial building. However, rent to own surveys tell a different story. The picture that these surveys paint is one that makes you step back, look at your own situation, and assess whether going the rent to own route is right for you. For instance, you may be renting a home, but still are responsible for the outdoor maintenance of it. If you are not sure how long you'll be renting that home, does it make sense for you to purchase a lawn mower, a hedge trimmer, and a bunch of hoses and sprinkler heads? Maybe it does if you plan on staying in the area. But what if you might move cross-country? In that case, the flexibility of a rent to own agreement is definitely worth something.

With rent to own business opportunities becoming an intriguing investment option in these changing times, the availability of rent to own stores is very good. A homeowner who is looking to take care of their yard without the upfront cost can usually find a store in their area where they can select from the latest models and most popular brands. Or, if there's a project that only requires one-time use of an item-like digging a trench for a landscaping bed, a rent to own store can satisfy that need as well. And if you enter a rent to own agreement with short term thinking but it turns out you'll be staying longer than you thought, you can always exercise the "own" portion of the rent to own agreement and buy that beautiful riding lawn mower outright.

And when you have that new leaf blower or tree pruner in your hands, you can feel safe knowing legislation like senate bill 1012 is being supported by the rent to own industry. This bill is intended to assure meaningful disclosures of the terms of rental-purchase agreements, including disclosures of costs and provision of certain substantive rights to consumers under such agreements.

Spring Home Projects in Northern New England

As I sit on a plane in route from Chicago to Boston this evening, I realize I have been staring out into the dark abyss contemplating the arrival of spring. Spring is a time of anticipation and renewed life. A time when the snow finally abates and the Robins return to rebuild their nests. And a time when Tulips and Daffodils emerge from the ground and bloom, if ever so briefly. It is also a time for the voracious Black Fly that we northern dwellers know only too well. For me, however, it is a time to shift into a higher gear; there are outdoor projects that have accumulated over the winter months and there is traditional spring tasks that every homeowner is compelled to do.

There are two main questions I debate as I compile my spring "To-Do" list: What to do and when to do it?

As always with a non-vinyl sided house, there is painting. Over the years, I have come to the conclusion it is best to paint a portion of the house each year; one year the clapboards, another year the trim, and maybe in the third year the shutters. I am sure the professional painter would beg to differ with my advice, but hey, not all of us can justify the professional painter every 3-5 years, nor can we dedicate an entire week or two of our spring painting the whole house. I have found it best to do the spring painting as soon as the whether gets above 50 degrees. Any sooner, it is too cold for the paint. Any later, and one has to contend with the other flying insect, the hornet.

Another important job, but not so large in effort, is preparing the lawn for the spring rains. First there is the raking. Then there is the application of the first stage of the four-stage fertilizer process, you know, the one that halts the Crab grass in July and August. Usually every other year there is the additional task of spreading the pest control to prevent grubs and moles. Based on product recommendations and when I actually have time, I do these tasks in mid May.

For those of us with bountiful winter snowfalls, many of us have the unique task of fixing or replacing our mailboxes for hopefully the last time, or at least for the next 12 months. This is particularly an aggravating task as we spend much of the time doing it, cussing under our breath the snow plow operator that we know had pleasure wiping out our mailbox.

Then there is the garden. I am not sure why I still bother. Maybe it is due to a memory of my youth, when I spent two summers working on a farm. It may also be some innate desire to see something grow from nothing, that I had a part in. I think it is the latter, but regardless, every April I go out and till, fertilizer and lime the soil, while I sacrifice my body to the Black flies. By May I begin to plant the Peas, Carrots and Onions. By June I plant the Tomatoes, Peppers and Squash. And by July, I am at war with the local Wood Chuck.

Finally, there is the changing of the machine guards; storing the snow blower away and preparing the lawn mower, or in my case lawn mowers. I have the sit-down one for the main course, and a push one for the dessert. As my father-in-law always insists, sharpen the blades before the start of the cutting season and then a couple of more times throughout the summer. Well, being non-retired, I am satisfied sharpening them once before the cutting season begins and I have yet to see any ill side effects.

I see the lights of Boston approaching in the distance. My flight is almost over; however my spring list is nearly complete. I am sure I have missed a few items, but my wife will surely remind me. I look forward to the warmth of spring, but as I look down at my list, I think, I'll just sit back and savor the final weeks of winter.

Wood Chippers - Buy New, Buy Used, Or Make Your Own?

Wood Chippers, Shredders and Grinders are fantastic tools for anyone who owns land and wants to keep it in good condition. Whether you have lots of brush to rid yourself of or larger trees which you need to clear, a Wood Chipper can certainly take care of your needs.

But the question becomes, what kind of Wood Chipper should you try to acquire? New Wood Chippers can be quite expensive if you are looking for a more sturdy, industrial sized one. Small 5-10 HP Wood Chippers are cheaper, but will they suit your needs?

Used Wood Chippers obviously will cost less than their brand new counterparts, so they may be a good place to look. You never know however, how it was treated by its previous owner, so you should be sure you trust the person selling it to you. Just like you do not want to buy a "lemon" car, the same applies to things such as Wood Chippers. If the engine has not been properly maintained, or if the cutting blades have not been checked often, you may very well be buying a poor piece of machinery.

The final option is making your own Wood Chipper. This is a growing trend and hobby among outdoor enthusiasts, but it comes with a very high amount of risk. Wood Chippers are an extremely dangerous piece of equipment. If you need to know what exactly they are capable of, go rent the movie "Fargo".

Therefore, it is incredibly important that you take extreme care if you do decide to make your own Wood Chipper. There are a number of resource on the web which give basic plans and groundworks for doing this, but as a general principle I would strongly advise against it unless you are an extremely savvy mechanical user.

Solve Your Space Problems With Self Storage Units

Are you running out of room at your home or office? Do you need to ensure the security of your collectible items? Are you renovating and don't know what to do with your furniture? From business archives to excess household goods, self storage units offer facilities that can solve the headaches and heartaches of freeing up the space you need. Self storage gives you the security, control and access you need over your papers, household goods, stock and collectible items.

There are many types of storage units available at self storage facilities that lease out space to individuals and businesses large and small.

When do you require storage units?

· When you are moving and do not want to clutter your new place while you settling down.

· Planning to sell your house and showing the house with maximum space benefits, to get a better price.

· Storing Christmas decorations, snowmobile and snow blowers during summers and bicycles, swimming pool and summer sports equipment during winters.

· Old files, sentimental items and things that you might not want to throw away.

· You need to ensure your collections and precious antiques are safe and secure.

· Remodeling, painting and redecorating and you need to move away your belongings.

· Death in the family and the items belonging to the person need storage.

· Business and trade requirements for warehousing and archival purposes.

Advantages of self storage units:

· Independent units can be used to store anything that is legal and safe.

· A unit can be rented out on a weekly or monthly basis.

· You can padlock it with your own locks.

· The owners of these storage facilities do not have access to these units.

· You can choose the size of the storage unit according to your requirement.

· Completely safe as the owners are responsible for the safety and security of the storage units and use the state of art facilities to safe guard your belongings.

· Security cameras, alarms and security guards around the clock are stationed for safeguarding the self storage unit facility.

· 24 hours access to the storage units.

However, you are not allowed to use self storage for flammable, toxic and hazardous substances. They can also not be used for living purposes but purely as storage units due to the lack of proper ventilation.

You need to be aware that self storage facilities should have optimized humidity control. Otherwise fungus, mold and mildew can create havoc with the stored items, due to the poor air ventilation and high moisture content inside the units. Good storage units keep the humidity levels to below 65% with a temperature set at 50 to 80 degrees F in their storage units.

Advanced storage facilities have other facilities such as cold storage facilities for preserving food and flowers, which require very low temperatures. Some self storage facilities are optimized to store delicate items like wine.

No longer do you need to worry about how you will store all collections or precious items - self storage units are the answer to all your storage problems.

My Review Of The Cold Steel Brave Heart Knife

In ancient Scotland, the sgian dubh was treasured for its super thin blade that was small enough to hide from enemies.

This knife style was loved so much that Scottish warriors always carried it with them as a backup to their claymore and dirk swords.

Now you can have the same piece of mind at a very reasonable price.

The Cold Steel Brave Heart has been very popular for the past 10 years or so.

I recently decided to get one of my own and here are my thoughts.

What I like about the knife:

1. At 4 inches long, the blade is small enough to conceal and large enough to give you awesome cutting power.

The blade is taper ground to a razor sharp edge that was able to shave right out of the box.

The Brave Hearts blade is made from Japanese AUS 8A stainless steel. This steel holds a good edge, but is easy to sharpen when you need to do that.

2. There is jimping (thumb grooves) on the spine of the blade. This feels nice when you are making precise cuts.

3. Cold Steel's Brave Heart comes with a super tough "Secure-Ex" sheath. This is basically a hard plastic material that will stand up to the worst conditions possible.

What I don't like:

1. There is no hand guard. This is a pretty typical feature for daggers, but it leaves you with little protection against slipping or other knives.

2. The blade is pretty thin. 2.8mm is perfect for puncturing or stabbing, but can break or chip if used as a prybar or chopping tool.

Overall:

The Cold Steel Brave Heart does its intended job VERY well.

If you're looking for a dagger/boot/utility knife that is convenient to carry around, I recommend this knife.

Your Most Valuable Piece of Garden Equipment

Well after pulling the starter cord about a thousand times I gave up, out of breath and totally discouraged. We all get flustered! Especially because it is time to cut the grass and our time is somewhat limited also. So I say "cool down", take a breath! The steps taken from here on in are the most communally taken. The next steps are important to try and figure out what is wrong with the garden equipment.

Well I would take out the spark plug to see if it is wet for one thing; at least that lets me know if the cylinder is getting any gas at all. The spark plug looks pretty wet! Mm-mm must be getting gas. Is it time for a tune-up?

If you had this lawn mower for more than ten years it is probably worn out. It's hard to for me to judge, however small engines are based on running hours which are about 5 thousand hours. Now that does vary of course on what make and model you have. Overall that is a golden rule. A tune up does not hurt it at all and replacement parts are probably needed by now. The important thing is giving more life to your lawn mower through constant maintenance.

Setting up the air gap on your spark plug does help or replacing it all together is your choice. In my opinion and experience, I have been using the same spark plug for over three years now with no problems. On all small engines you have a cold start! That is from the cylinder compressing the very first burst of fuel received from the intake stroke, drawing air through the carburetor mixing the proper amount of fuel and delivering it into the cylinder.

There is a simple system however that allows extra gas to be delivered of and it is called a choke plate. This choke plate is sometimes over looked as it may not be closing properly at all and can cause the engine not to start. It should be examined to see if it is not bent or out of shape.

Swarovski Binoculars EL 8.5x42 Versus Nikon Binoculars 8x42 HG DCF

When you get to high end binoculars they are all pretty good, they have to be to command the prices but there is always going to one pair of binoculars that stands out from the crowd and for me that is most definitely the Swarovski Binoculars. The EL 8.5x42's are absolutely amazing, you pick them up and you hardly know that you have them in your hand, the weight and balance is superb. The 8x42 HG DCF Nikon Binoculars definitely feel heavier and yet they are the lighter of the two (795g vs 819g).

When you pick up a pair of Swarovski binoculars they just feel special even when they are among the elite of the elite. The Nikon High Grade feel good but there is a definite difference which makes Swarovski, for me, win hands down.

As you expect the optical quality of both the Nikon and the Swarovski binoculars is outstanding. The Swarovski EL's have a slight advantage of an extra 0.5x magnification which gives them an additional edge. Both deliver a sharp image, the contrast of the Nikon's is perhaps slightly better but the Swarovski binoculars, in my opinion, are the brightest and have the best resolution, although the resolution of the 8x42 HG DCF Nikon binoculars is close.

Some people prefer the colour retention of the Nikon HG 8x42 Binoculars but I found the Swarovski binoculars to be exceptionally good. The EL 8.5x42's boast the latest technology with Swarobright prism coating which dramatically increases light transmission and ensures natural colour.

For depth of field the Swarovski EL 8.5x42's come in top and again with field of view which is 62.0o compared to 52.1o with the 8x42 HG DCF Nikon binoculars.

Both the EL 8.5x42 Swarovski binoculars and the 8x42 HG DCF Nikon binoculars enable close focusing, 2.5 mtrs and 3.0 mtrs respectively, not much to choose between them, both with excellent image quality.

Spectacle wearers can use either, the Swarovski binoculars come with twist-in eyecups (eye relief 18mm) and the Nikon have turn and slide rubber cups (eye relief 20mm), both are comfortable to use but I definitely preferred the Swarovski which just has the edge despite a slightly smaller exit pupil of 4.9mm (compared to 5.3mm with the Nikon).

The 8x42 HG DCF Nikon binoculars are waterproof to 2mtrs, nitrogen filled and sealed and perform well in extreme conditions. The Swarovski binoculars are waterproof to 4mtrs, also nitrogen filled and sealed. Both are rubber armoured and highly durable, little to choose between them.

I think you can take it as read that my preferred binoculars are the Swarovski EL 8.5 x42's, exceptional all round wildlife / bird watching binoculars, beautiful to hold, excellent image quality and perform well in low light conditions. For anyone who is in the market for a high end binocular then the EL Swarovski binoculars have most definitely got to be strong contender. Use them once and you'll never want to be without them so if you don't have £1,000+ to spend on a pair of binoculars I highly recommend that you don't try them!

Jacobsen Greens King Mower - Add Power to Older Engines

Small engine vehicles have been revitalized and revamped over the last several years. Golf carts and hauling vehicles once innovative in the 1980s were still able to be improved upon in the areas of design, steering mechanism, vehicle weight and basic functionality. Mowers, however, have remained constant in their design and mechanics for quite some time. The single biggest area of improvement for golf course and large area mowers is in the engine. Recent small engine mechanics innovation has allowed designers to create more powerful, easier to maintain, and more efficient engines for these pieces of equipment. Though older model mowers may have quality engines that are still getting the job done, many landscapers or greens keepers may find that the engine does not provide the power or efficiency that a newer vehicle could. Buying a new mower in order to get the power of a modern small engine is not necessary if you consider repowering the vehicle instead.

What Is Repowering?
Repowering a small engine refers to installing a newer rebuilt engine into an existing vehicle in order to improve its performance and save on buying a brand new vehicle or motor. By repowering, a landscapers or golf course maintenance crew gets more than just swapping out an old engine for the same rebuilt model engine. Rather, a repower kit swaps out an old engine for a newer, better engine model built with the latest technology. Repowering results in a better small engine in a vehicle for the fraction of the price of buying a new one.

I Already Have A Quality Engine
If you are a smart consumer, you have already bought a large mower from a reputable brand that stands by its products. So, you may wonder why you would ever want to consider repowering. Consider the Jacobsen Greens King IV. Jacobsen has an incredible reputation for being a leading turf maintenance mowers and equipment manufacturer for over 100 years. The company's Greens King IV has been one of their best selling vehicles for over a quarter of a century. These mowers, however, will last longer and perform better if their engines are updated to newer models.

The need to innovate and improve performance is well understood by Jacobsen. The company's newer model Greens King IV has a 16 or 18 horse power Briggs & Stratton Vanguard gas engines. Older models have a 14 or 16 horse power Kohler engines. Improving the engine is important to the long-term life of the mower and to achieve better performance. This is why so many are choosing to repower their landscaping mowers - to give their well-maintained older models more power and extend their life.

Jacobsen Greens King IV is a popular landscaping mower and hauling vehicle manufacturer. As such, there are a variety of repower kits available. There are Briggs & Stratton Vanguard small engines or Kohler small engine rebuild kits available, depending on what engine is currently installed in the GV IV. Diesel models are also great candidates for repower kits. Those landscapers with other mowers brands, something other than a Jacobsen, can easily find a repower kit compatible with their model too.

Where Do I Find A Repower Kit?
Small engine repower or rebuild kits are available from several certified dealers online. When looking for a kit, make sure the one you purchase comes with a warranty that you would expect from the original factory dealer. They are available. This will give you piece of mind and assurance that the quality of your machine will remain intact. After all, repowering a small engine is a step toward improving the value of your mower and extending its life.

Ventless Fireplaces - Things to Consider Before You Buy

It used to be that choices in fireplaces were very limited. They were basically the vented wood burning or gas fireplace. Then along came the ventless fireplace, giving the home owner many more choices. The ventless fireplace also gave new options to apartment dwellers and condo owners. Today there are several options in ventless fireplaces and several things you need to consider before buying or installing.

For starters, the ventless fireplace can be permanently installed or can be portable. What is best for your particular situation needs to be carefully considered. If you're renovating an existing fireplace than installing a ventless fireplace insert is a good option. If you're not into tearing out walls and running flu pipe, than a portable ventless fireplace is the way to go. For apartments, condos, offices or anywhere else there is limited space the portable fireplace is usually the best choice.

If you opt for the permanently installed ventless gas fireplace here are some things to consider. In years past the technology only allowed for a vented gas fireplace because of the massive amounts of carbon monoxide generated as a by-product of burning. Today the technology has been improved so there is more efficient burning of the gas, producing very minimal carbon monoxide. It's all in the burners that are used. And while they burn more efficiently they just don't look quite as good as the vented gas fireplace. This is because with the vented fireplace the burners could be covered with silica sand making it look like the whole area around the logs was burning, giving a much more realistic fire. Because these high efficiency burners can't be covered with anything, you won't get the burning embers effect. If this isn't a big deal for you, than this option may be a very attractive way to go.

In addition, other safety features have been added such as oxygen depletion sensors (ODS). These sensors monitor the amount of oxygen in the air around the floor. If carbon monoxide builds up, these sensors are activated and the gas is shut off. This would happen long before you would start to feel any effects from the carbon monoxide.

Another issue to consider with the ventless gas fireplace is moisture. One of the by-products of burning natural gas is the production of water. With the vent free fireplace this moisture is trapped within your home. Sometimes this moisture will condense on cold surfaces. If this happens where you don't see it such as in attics in the winter, other problems can arise. On the other hand, especially people who heat with radiators may want and need the extra humidity that is created.

If you don't want the ventless gas fireplace, there are other alternatives.
The gel fuel fireplace is a great option. It is portable, easy to install and burns gel fuel in cans placed behind the logs. Just light and you're ready to go. The fire is real and can be made larger or smaller depending on how many cans of fuel you burn at one time. But this is not an alternative heating source. It really is only a decorative fireplace.

Another option is the electric fireplace. This is another portable option with ease of installation and no maintenance. The technology has improved to where you run these with heat only, flame only or heat and flame. Equipped with a fan or blower they give off enough warmth to heat a very small room. These are certainly just decorative fireplaces. They feature only a simulated flames and no crackling sound of a real fire. This option is hard to beat for apartments, condos and offices.

With a little thought and planning, you can find a ventless fireplace option that will meet your specific needs and situation. Whatever the choice, a good ventless fireplace will give you years of pleasure and provide a spectacular gathering place for family and friends.

Scrapbooking Tools: Product Review: ProvoCraft Tools Sew Crafty Mini

At first glance, the ProvoCraft Tools Sew Crafty(TM) Mini seems like a great idea. Its compact, appears to be easy to use, and has the ability to be battery powered or can plug into the wall, if you purchase the separate power adaptor for it. At around $10, it is also affordable. The machine itself comes with a bobbin of white thread, a needle threader, and a couple of replacement needles. For an additional $10, you can also purchase the accessory pack, which comes with bobbins threaded in every color, several more replacement needles, and another needle threader. Geared more towards a tool for scrapbookers, I was intrigued by this product and purchased one for my supply cabinet.

What seems like a good idea actually is; at least, until you start using it. While the compactness comes in handy when you're cramped for space, and the lack of wires makes it portable, that's where the advantages to using this sewing machine end. Once you've gotten your thread through the needle eye, and you start sewing, you'll find that the thread doesn't want to stay in the tensioner. Once this happens, your stitches are loose and pull out easier. Tightening the tensioner doesn't help this problem, and often if you're in the middle of sewing something, you can't easily slip the thread back in. Instead, you have to stop by pushing the awkwardly placed on/off button and reinsert the thread. If you're trying to sew a longer item, you're in for a lot of starting and stopping.

The Sew Crafty(TM) Mini is also incredibly loud for being such a small tool. It makes an almost deafening whining sound as it works, making it impossible for me to do any quiet sewing when my 10-month old sleeps in the next room. You can also forget trying to watch television or talk on the phone while using this item, because the noise is just that bad.

While it's easy to figure out how to thread the machine, and how to use it, it is also difficult to remove your item from the machine once you've completed your stitching. Many times, the thread gets caught in the area below the foot. Pulling on it to try to remove it threatens to pull out your stitching (which, if the tensioner has come loose several times, has taken a while to accomplish), and adjusting the needle wheel to move the needle up and down and release the thread only works half of the time.

Stitch selection is also a minimum. The Sew Crafty(TM) Mini only does one stitch: a straight line. You can't really expect more than that for $10, but it would be nice if it did another stitch for those who don't own a full-sized sewing machine.

All in all, if I have the time to sit down and try to create a straight line stitch with the Sew Crafty(TM) Mini, I also have the time to pull out my bulky sewing machine and use it, instead. If you would like a sewing machine, but don't have the money or space for one, this is the perfect tool. Otherwise, your money is best spent on the real, life-sized thing.

Autumn Leaves Removal - How to Get the Job Done Right

Having leaves in your backyard can be a huge hassle. The crunching under your feet can be novel for a while. Then, they start to pile up and take over! It's best to know how to remove these leaves to get them out of your hair.

One way that people choose to get rid of the leaves is to hire a professional. These professionals are quick and efficient and often guarantee their service. If you're worried about being able to do the job right, you might want to consider hiring someone

The problem here is that these professionals can often be very expensive. If you're tight on money then this isn't the best option for you. Also, if the leaves continue to fall you might have to hire them again and again.

If that is the case with you, then you might want to consider removing the leaves yourself. There are several options available if you choose this method.

You can buy a mulching attachment for your lawn mower. This will break the leaves down into minuscule pieces that you can use as mulch later.
There are also leaf vacuums that will get the job one right. These vacuums suck the leaves up in a snap, and then are put into a bag that is easily disposed of.
You could use an old fashioned rake. Some children think that raking leaves is fun! If you have some kids running around your house you might want to consider having them rake the leaves for you for some compensation, or just the knowledge that they helped out. When the raking is done, they can go into bags to be disposed of.
Another option is a leaf blower. These probably aren't the best option because they just blow the leaves away. This can be a problem if they end up in a neighbors yard or all over the street. People generally use these as a way to keep sidewalks and other paths clear of leaves.

Think about the method that makes the most sense for you to use. The most economical option is to rake the leaves. However, that can be very time consuming. It is very fast to vacuum them up, but that option is a lot more expensive. Different lifestyles will want to choose different methods to get rid of leaves.

No matter which option you choose, know that you'll feel a lot better once the leaves are gone. It can be hard to see your backyard and paths covered with leaves. Start the process today, so you can feel better about your yard tomorrow.

Blown Glass: They Do Still Make It Like They Used To

Blown art glass is quickly becoming one of the fastest growing hobbies in North America... and it is about time. Glassblowing has been around since 27 BC in Syria, though the first evidence of manmade glass products occurs in Mesopotamia in the late 3rd century BC. But the advancement of actual "blowing" glass using a tube transformed the materials usefulness. The new technique quickly spread throughout the Roman world.

Harvey Littleton, a ceramics professor, and Dominick Labino, a chemist and engineer, are credited with starting the most recent "studio glass movement" in 1962. The two held workshops at the Toledo Museum of Art. This is where the current method of melting glass in a furnace for use in blown glass art was originated. Thus, Littleton and Labino are credited with making molten glass available to artists in private studios.

The actual process of preparing the glass for blowing is very involved though. The glass is melted in furnaces using the sand, limestone, soda, potash and other compounds. The actual transformation of raw materials into glass takes place well above 2000 degrees Fahrenheit.

After the glass has melted, the artist uses a blowpipe to shape the glass. The blowpipe is about five feet long and is used for blowing a parison of molten glass. Molds are used to impress decorative patterns.

There are two types of modern glassblowing but offhand glassblowing is the type most people picture in their mind when they think about this kind of art. The artist gathers a glob of fused glass at the end of a hollow tube called a blowpipe or blowing iron. The molten glass is then fashioned into its final form by various techniques of blowing and shaping with hands, tolls and molds. The second kind of glassblowing is lampworking. Lampworking is the softening of a glass tube by heating it in the flame of a torch. Next, the softened glass is manipulated into its final form by blowing and shaping with hands and tools. Any number of things can be created using either technique; sculpted animals, ashtrays, vases, aquarium pieces, beads, paper weights, perfume bottles...the list goes on and on. Moreover, practically every major part of the world at one time or another in its history has been known, in some part, for its glass art. However, Mexican glass art is the most popular.

Mexico is the land of the master craftsman. Known throughout history as being expert potters, weavers and wood carvers, Mexican artists have really made their mark as glassblowers. Beginning in 1542 in Puebla, these artists produced glass items in a variety of shapes with little more than a long pipe and a glob of melted glass. Experienced Mexican glass blowers will even add effects as small bubbles, blobs of color or pebbles to their finished to pieces to make them stand out.

Authentic Mexican glass is easily identified by a ponti, or a place at the bottom of the finished product that indicates it was mouth blown. Another feature of Mexican glass is its individual nature. No two pieces are ever exactly alike in size, shape or design, which simply adds to the unique nature of each piece.

But the most unique detail about this glassblowing is how little it's changed since its inception. For the most part, glassblowers are still producing beautiful works of art the same way they did back in 27 BC...melted glass and a metal tube. This is one instance where my grandpa was wrong. In the case of glassblowing, "They are still making them like they used to."

Lawn Mower Hand Powered Manual Mowers - Get Fit and Reduce Your Gardening Costs

Lawn Mower hand powered manual mowers are powered by good old human energy, a large wheel on the back of the mower is pushed causing the grass cutting blade to turn fast enough to cut grass. The hand mower is nearly silent in operation, ideal for built up areas. Alternative lawnmowers are powered by electrical motor or petrol engine, both these options cost the household money for petrol or electrical consumption.

Manual mowers are easy to store and lightweight as no engine is required. Human powered mowers will also last for years as with no engine or electronics there is very little to go wrong, unlike electrical mowers, hand powered mowers may be safely used on damp grass. Lawn mower hand powered mowers are all metal construction with steel blades which are fully height adjustable, any size of grass can be accommodated.

Hand powered mowers are great for exercise, time spent outdoors leisurely pushing the mower and day dreaming. A task which you could not be accomplished through the noise of a petrol or electrical mower. The environment wins on two fronts, manual mowers have zero emissions and are 100% environmentally friendly. Manual mowers also are silent in operation and do not contribute to increased urban noise that our neighbourhoods are now so used too.

Manual mowers also incorporate a grass box to collect grass cuttings as you mow, keeping the lawn tidy with no after mow raking required.

Lawn mower hand powered manual mowers are low cost, 100% environmentally friendly mowers.

Top 5 reasons to own a manual mower:

1. 100% environmentally friendly.
2. No electricity or petrol required.
3. Go anywhere, use anywhere mowing.
4. Zero noise pollution.
5. Keep fit enjoying gardening again without noise.

Forex Killer Reviews - Reviews of Forex Killer Software

I've been reading Forex Killer reviews lately and it seems to be that the results are definitely a mixed bag. Some people absolutely love it and it's their favorite piece of automated trading software. They use the software daily and are very happy with the profits they make. Other people, on the other hand, hated it, say Forex Killer is a scam, and couldn't wait to get their money back. So what gives? What's the difference between loving this piece of software and thinking it's a piece of junk?

I personally think that the major difference boils down to knowledge and experience in foreign exchange trading. I don't think that any piece of software is going to do all the work for you while you just sit back and rake in the cash. While that would be really cool, it's an unrealistic expectation in the real world. Anything worthwhile has a certain amount of work attached to it.

What this forex signal software will do is make the input of data easier. It will also generate a break out and trend trading signal along with an estimated probability of a successful trade. This is where Forex Killer's job ends and your job begins. It's your job to decide if the trading signal is in agreement with your own technical analysis of the market. No software on the market can do that comparison work for you.

It's important that you not rely 100% on a piece of software. If you are going to trade forex, there is simply no substitute for educating yourself on how the market works so that you can make a more educated and calculated trade. There are many different trading styles, and you must find one that suits your risk tolerance. I personally prefer the H1 Breakout System that Forex Killer uses because I find that I trade profitably about 75% of the time with the breakout plus trend following style. It suits both my temperament and risk tolerance.

If you currently have no experience in trading forex, then my suggestion would be to buy Forex Killer and read both the manual and the beginner's crash course that's provided with your purchase. Once you understand the basics of trading the market, open a trading account that will allow you to practice, also called paper trading, for free. DO NOT make a trade with real money until you are making consistent profits with your free paper trading. Trust me, if you can't make money in practice trades, you won't make money with a real trade.

While Forex Killer reviews are varied, please keep in mind that the general difference between a positive and negative review has much to do with knowledge and experience. Forex Killer is not a scam, it's simply a tool with which you can make a more educated, therefore, more profitable trade.

Steam Carpet Cleaning Equipment

Carpet steam cleaners use a variety of different carpet cleaning equipment. There are gas powered truck mounted machines, electric truck mounted machines and electric portable machines. This article will provide you with the basic differences between these machines.

The first machine is a gas truck mount carpet cleaner. This is one of the most common machines used in the carpet cleaning industry. This machine uses either the trucks engine or a separate gas engine to drive a vacuum blower and water pump. These machines have the capacity to provide the greatest amount of vacuum and the highest heat. They are the preferred piece of steam cleaning equipment because of their power, speed and efficiency. With this machine, the cleaner only needs to bring 2 hoses into your home. This eliminates the need to bring bulky equipment into your hose and decreases noise in your home.

Electric truck mounted cleaners are another type of carpet cleaning machine. They are similar to gas truck mounts but they use an electric motor to drive a vacuum blower and water pump. They are nice because they are a little more environmentally friendly and they are much quieter to run. They do not provide as much vacuum power as gas powered machines but do an adequate job. With this machine a cleaner also only needs to bring 2 hoses into your home.

The last machine I will discuss is a portable carpet cleaning machine. This machine uses electricity to power a vacuum motor and water pump. All of the equipment is located in a portable assembly that the cleaner will bring into your home. This machine is great for areas not serviceable by truck mounted machines like apartments and high rises. It does not provide as much power as the the truck mount machines but it has enough power to get the job done. The drawback of this machine is that the cleaner must bring it into your home and it can be loud and cumbersome to use.

While there are other carpet cleaning machines, these are the 3 most common steam cleaners. Remember, carpet cleaning machines are just tools. Even the best machine will not get the job done with a bad operator. You should choose your carpet cleaning service based on the skill, ethics and motivation of your carpet cleaner.

Jeep Snow Plow

We all know that jeeps are one of the best off road cars in the world, but snow is a whole other territory even for a jeep. However you can attach several equipments on the jeep such as ice pokes on the wheels as well as snow plowing equipment at the front of the car. The best way to find this kind of equipment for making your jeep into a snow plowing machine is by searching the internet, where you will find the right stores to go to as well as the right equipment to buy so you don't go buying the wrong size or the wrong material.

There are currently a variety of snow plow machines and vehicles in the market today and a couple of them would include ATV, tractor snow plows, and truck snow plows. Jeep snow plows are not that different from these others. However with a jeep snow plow you are probably using your own jeep and will have to buy your own materials that you will attach to the jeep for plowing purposes.

The materials involved will have to be strong and sturdy as well as light enough to be held by your jeep. The blade has to have corrosion resistant paint so as to last you a while and also be able to withstand brute force because you might encounter some hard surfaces as you are plowing the snow. The best quality of blades would be from Meyer's snow plow blades and Boss snow plow blades.

Jeep snow plows are mostly used by home owners or buy people who are trying to make a living during a snow season by plowing the streets for others as well as driveways. Its best to get the right materials for your jeep and if you are not sure look for an expert and get an opinion on how to go about it.

Vacuums for the Outdoors

Mention vacuums and most people think of cleaning carpets. There is a niche of commercial vacuums designed for the outdoors and they are powerful.

The fall season creates some problems for the maintenance of large lawns. Smaller homes and smaller lawns can deal with the leaf problem with a rake. Some larger lawns can make use of a blower that uses the force of air to replace the muscle power of the rake. Both of these methods have a similar drawback. They move the leaves from one place to another, but they do not remove them. A second step is needed to either burn or bag the piles of debris raked from the yard.

The solution for the maintenance of a large lawn is the commercial leaf vacuum. The leaf vacuum works in the same manner as a vacuum cleaner. A powerful motor creates a suction that sucks leafs into a hose and deposits them in a large container. The container can be rolled to another location and dumped. The vacuumed lawn looks well maintained and manicured with a minimum of effort.

There are two major styles of leaf vacs available. The first type is a push and walk behind model. The container is usually a large, but light weight wheeled cart. The engine assembly resembles a push lawn mover. In fact, most of them are equipped with Briggs and Stratton or Honda lawn mover motors. The user starts the motor and pushes the machine around the lawn in the same manner as he would vacuum a rug inside.

For larger lawns, there are several units that are designed to attach to riding lawn mowers or garden tractors. These are designed for the largest lawns. The cart is much larger as it can be easily pulled by the tractor. Most of these models are designed to work in conjunction with the lawn mower. Grass can be cut and the clippings removed at the same time that the leafs and other small litter is being vacuumed.

The leaf vacuum is a valuable tool for a landscaping operation that is concerned with creating perfectly maintained lawns. The size of the lawn is usually the main determining factor. The type and amount of trees spread across the grounds or nearby also makes a big difference. When there are large numbers of trees in the area, the total volume of debris on the lawn becomes too large a job for rakes or a simple leaf blower. It is then that the leaf vacuum is needed.

Have You Discovered Your Own Passion Yet?

Each of us is alive; therefore, each of us is Life Itself and it needs each of us. We are here to discover what we are supposed to express while we are here; which life lessons we are supposed to learn; what our purpose is; what feelings we are supposed to share with our fellow Lifers. Most important of all, we are here to discover what our own passion is.

Discovering Your Purpose

Within your core, is the purpose you have been most drawn to from the beginning. You conjure up desires, and then you think about them. At some point, you feel certain about what you most want. Inside you are a lifetime of all the thoughts you've thought and the feelings you have felt. To discover your purpose, look at how you've traditionally felt about things in your life. When your heart swells up with joy and interest, and you honor your heart-felt sureness, you will be dancing to your own music, and you will be sharing your passion with your fellow man.

If You Aren't Tuned In To Your Feelings

Many of us are following paths in education, or career that were chosen for us by some other, like a parent or a partner. If their dream for you isn't your dream for you, a dichotomy is set up and you will feel uncomfortable. Discomfort is a dissonant tune your consciousness plays to say "Hey! You are off track from your own wishes, wants, desires and your true purpose for being here." If you decide to listen to another, your own consciousness will sing that song faster and louder to get your attention. These tunes will have one thing in common: you will be very uncomfortable. You can only become comfortable again by discovering what your purpose is and then go for it. Stop following someone else's music. Your own song, your own CD, your own heart throb: that's the goal.

It May Not Be Easy

A German boy's mother once told him "We can't afford to feed you any more. You'll have to find your own way." He was twelve years old. He'd always wanted to come to America, so with only this dream in his heart, he decided he had nothing left to lose when the door to his ancestral home closed, and he set off to find passage to America and find his life dream. He sailed in the steerage class of a huge ship to America. He was let out weekly onto the deck where he would lean over the rail to comb the lice out of his hair. He became a sidecar motorcycle racer in the United States, an electrician, and a glass blower working for Corning. He raised chickens and cows and planted a garden to help feed and raise his three daughters and three sons. He was a successful man who accomplished his dream. He is the grandfather of my friend.

He took risks to find his purpose in life. The young boy had nothing but his own dream to defer to and by doing that, he was well served. He earned his living from simply being where his dream led him, and he provided a service to his family with his humor, his intelligence, and his considerable skills unfolded through the necessities in his life.

What Limits Your Passion?

When you are doing what you have been sent here to do, you will feel completely satisfied, totally comfortable, highly accomplished, and you will see that others on this earth are benefiting from what you do. Only two things can keep you from discovering your passion:

Doubt and Fear

If you permit doubt or fear in your life, you will be following the advice of others vs. your own; you will be seeking their approval vs. your own; you'll hide out at home vs. stepping out into your own pursuits.

You deserve to live your life according to your own dreams: enjoyment, success, happiness and fine health. Discover what your life lesson is and discover what your purpose for living is. Tune in to your feelings. Look inside of you and listen there for whatever piece of music sings most loudly. Find what you are passionate about and follow your own music.

Understanding Hardwood Lumber

You can have a few projects in mind woodworking as a building, a barn, maybe with a floor in your house. The first question that comes to mind is what the right kind of timber for the particular job? This question is easily answered, if you know a bit 'unique features and qualities of each hardwood.

Hardwood is the wood from hardwood trees, those that have broad leaves, produce or nuts. In North America,Most hardwoods are cherry, maple, walnut, oak and hickory. The climate in North America is favorable for the production of trees of this strong wood. The entire group of these trees, taken together, are called hardwood trees.

Even if all the wood is not the same, the steps of the timber industry to the wind with the description of strengths and different qualities, so that consumers, which is the best hardwood for the project, which is taken standardizeto consider.

The hardest of all hardwoods are pecan and hickory. The strength of the hardwood is the PSI, which, how much pressure to dent the wood is measured in pounds, determined. For hickory and pecan, which takes 1820 pounds. The softer "hardwood and Aspen, which takes less than 350 pounds in March for the wood most commonly used woods in the middle, in terms of pounds of pressure, such as maple (1,450), white oak (1360) and cherry (950 pounds). These measurementsare important because they show the best wood for the project. For floors that you want a harder wood than you would for furniture.

Depending on the temperature and humidity, wood expands and contracts as an adaptation to its environment. To change this setting in the plot to keep to a minimum, hardwoods were removed in a microwave oven for a large part of its moisture dried. This stabilizes the level of expansion and contraction, sowhich retains its original shape as possible.

Producers of quality hardwood take the character of the wood will be considered unless they indicate that the wood will be used. An example of this approach is that Windsor Plywood as a mark under the floors and the bases of the exterior walls. Siegal, Lowes, Carter and Dunn, Carter, Lowes lumber and lumber stamp for the job, what do you want adjusted. When you shop online, you will see that vendors like lumberThe editors carry a large stock of hardwood lumber is used mainly for flooring.

You should be careful about the type of timber you want to use for each project, and especially on how you see the finished product. Although the differences is strong or lasting different woods, finished appearance may vary considerably, and then must decide whether you prefer the look of rough white oak or maple, the surface softer. FromHardwoods are generally of any color you can color as the wheat, decide what the final product will look like.
